Less than two years after it was unveiled as a concept, Aston Martin has confirmed that their all-electric ‘RapidE’ – the first electricpowered model from the prestige carmaker - will enter production in 2019. Set for a limited production run of 155 cars, RapidE is the first product of Aston Martin’s ‘Second Century Plan’, and will spearhead development of the brand’s low- and zeroemission future vehicle strategy. Williams Advanced Engineering, who worked on the original RapidE Concept, will remain involved in bringing the production RapidE to market. More specifically, they will assist Aston Martin with engineering integration. Based upon the forthcoming Rapide AMR concept, RapidE will deliver the fourdoor sports car looks and dynamics of the Rapide S, but with an all-electric powertrain replacing the six-litre V12 engine. Ferrari’s 70th birthday and the end of Holden’s local manufacturing operations will be two of the significant milestones to be celebrated at this year’s Motorclassica. A ‘limited-edition performance package’ of Toyota’s 86 sports coupe has been announced - with styling, braking and suspension upgrades. Based on the top-grade GTS manual variant and limited to just 60 units for Australia, the Special Edition adds larger Brembo performance brake calipers and larger ventilated brake discs for enhanced stopping power, as well as specially-tuned Sachs performance dampers for improved dynamic stability, plus custom paint and interior modifications. The substantially beefier rotors are 326mm x 30mm at the front, with four-piston calipers and larger 75cm2 pads. This compares to the GTS’s normal 294mm x 24mm front rotors and 54cm2 pads. The first official images of the nextgeneration, fully-imported Commodore race car were revealed in June, ahead of the car’s debut in the 2018 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship. The rendering, produced by GM Design Australia Exterior Design Manager Peter Hughes, is part of a development campaign for competition versions of the nextgeneration Commodore that, according to Holden, includes advanced simulation and aerodynamic evaluation using sophisticated computer modelling. A competition-spec Impreza with WRC development history smashed the previous auction record for a Subaru when it sold at H&H’s Classics Sale in the UK this past June. The WRC97-spec Impreza bearing chassis #001 was not a works car and did not compete as an official Subaru entrant, but was still significant, because it served as the development car tested by Prodrive to meet the new World Rally Car regulations for the 1997 season. That testing included miles driven by 1995 WRC champion Colin McRae. As a privateer entry, the Subaru was raced in the 1998 Acropolis Rally and 2001 Swedish Rally, but was more successful in regional and national-level rallying competition. Following the release of the limited-edition Dodge Challenger SRT Demon (see JUST CARS #256), Dodge has confirmed that elements of that model will be applied to the Challenger SRT Hellcat for the 2018 model year. While it carries no power upgrades over the existing 527kW Hellcat, the upcoming model does add the Demon’s wider 20x11-inch “Devil’s Rim” wheels and complementary 305/35ZR20 Pirelli P-Zero tyres. The wider wheelarch flares to suit this wheel and tyre package add 3.5 inches (8.89cm) to the car’s overall width.
