At times, a coincidence ends up changing your life in ways that you hadn’t anticipated. That’s what happened to Per and Lene in the town of Aalborg in Denmark. We’re visiting their home where they live and run their store full of French antiques. Basically, it was the sideboard in the living room that kickstarted the entire adventure when Per and Lene set up their own company, buying and selling French antiques, back in 2017. The couple had always been interested in art and history, but not in old furniture and other old items. For two days, Gil showed the participants how to combine small pieces of lace and ribbons to decorate a hat or make hair ornaments. One of the things that we’ve always been told is that we’re good at sticking to the style. I’d like to say that we still do that, but the country style has indeed changed during the years. Cleanse the tomatoes and cut them in halves or quarters, depending on the size. Chop the oregano. Place both ingredients in an oven-proof dish and carefully mix them with olive oil and date syrup. When Lena and Jan bought this building, it was a truly run-down place. There was no sewage system and no hot water, but only a couple of fireplaces and an old cooker. It took lots of visions and hard work to turn this place into the couple’s dream home. The big attic offered the possibility of creating the large cottage that they were dreaming of. They started on the upper floor, creating new bedrooms and a bathroom, and then they renovated the lower floor. Over the years, the kitchen has been renovated no less than three times.
