It’s still early summer so everything is still green and fresh, and you can really enjoy spending as much time outdoors as possible. Here in the north, we’re not lucky enough to be able to spend all year in our gardens – at least not with the same degree of joy – but right now is the time to be outdoors, and that’s why this edition of the magazine is full of inspiration on how to furnish your garden, your terrace, the orangery and the summer cottage. Floral fabrics, grandma’s cabinets and antique chinaware. You can feel the spirit of former times here at "Maso di Villa" which has been the name of this place since the 19th century. The place used to be a home and stable but was abandoned in the 1970s. It took the owner four years to renovate it and restore the original style. The beautiful, original details, such as the amazing, rustic stones on the front, and the architectural lines have been preserved. The owner have used nothing but recycling materials for the renovation project, including old wooden planks, period terracotta tiles for the floors and old beams for the ceilings. What a nice table for the party! Filled dahlias are some of the most beautiful flowers and you can use them to lay a simple table in the garden. Find lots of different glass vases, bottles and glasses, place them next to each other and place on flower on each one. You can also use a couple of stems from tall grasses. Add old plates, cozy textiles and oil lamps that create a cozy and warm atmosphere when it gets dark. You can make a beautiful arrangement using a selection of flowers in vases. Here, it’s the color scheme that creates coherence. Mix shapes and sizes, and place the items in the middle of the table. You can also make your decorations in old tureens or bowls.…

Using very old techniques, natural materials and a modern approach, Nadiya and Walter have renovated an old "trullo" located in the landscape of Apulia. The place is equipped with all commodities but has been created to put as little strain on the environment as possible. "We wanted to keep the original charm of our trulli so we did the project with lots of respect for the old elements. A trullo house isn’t just a beautiful, cone-shaped building made of stones but also a symbol of harmony and balance between several elements", Nadiya and Walter explain. The house is from Walter’s family who’s from Apulia and the couple inherited the house from his grandmother, Maria. Nadiya was born in Ukraine. When Mette and Jens, the owners of Cafe Moules in the Danish village of Øster Hurup, come up with a new idea, it doesn’t take long for them to implement it. Having seen Carina’s gin trailer here in the magazine, they came up with the idea of making a "Cocio trailer", wanting to place it outside their café during the main season. They already had an old trailer and within two weeks, they emptied the trailer and turned it into a Cocio café. They painted it in the Cocio colors red and yellow, using Vintage Paint. They added retro wallpaper from a market and furnished the trailer with a counter, a fridge, a work area and two slush ice machines. Mette turned some old clothes into these cute flag garlands…

It’s like stepping into a completely different world where time hasn’t evolved. The first thing we notice, following the initial, breathtaking sight of the castle when driving down the gravel road through the fog, is the perfect quietness. We feel a very special kind of peace and our shoulders automatically drop. Isabelle greets us in the yard and she insists that we have a bit of wine and cheese although it’s getting late. Here at A La Provence, the flowers in the fields have definitely starting to grow. In this Danish company that we’re following, Henrik and Susanne are determined to produce sustainable, dried flowers from seeds that they sow in their own soil. In May and June, the work is mainly about keeping snails and weeds away from the flowers. The plants aren’t yet big enough to be able to fill up the holes entirely so the weeds grow everywhere. That’s why Susanne is so busy every single day. They also continue to plant new plants in the fields. Ramona has set up a small potting area with old tables, dressers and cabinets in one of the corners. FLOWERS IN GLASSES AND BOTTLES IT’S EASY AND BEAUTIFUL Keep the nicest glasses and small bottles when cooking and use them as small vases. If you place them next to each other on a tray, they turn into one decoration item. You might want to glue the bottles to each other because then you can leave them on the garden table without them falling over when it’s windy. Mango chutney Mango chutney is a great accompaniment for many curry dishes. 2 ripe mangos, 1 finely chopped onion, ½ finely diced red bell pepper, 2 cloves of garlic (chopped), 1 small finely chopped chili, 1 tbsp grated ginger, 1 tsp cumin, 1 tsp vanilla sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon, 1 tsp cardamon, 1.5 fl oz (½ dl) vinegar, 0.4 cup (1 dl) sugar, 3 fl oz (1 dl) water, salt and pepper Pour all the ingredients into a pot and boil the mixture for 10-15 minutes. Nicole tells us that she’s always dreamed of making a garden party featuring the most delicious homemade food, beautiful flowers, white tablecloths moving in the light breeze, and a long, warm summer night…pure coziness and relaxation. Maj Nørgaard, 55, has created quite an exciting life story. She’s what you’d call a multi-artist. She paints, makes Christmas decoration items and creates sculptures out of driftwood and sheep wool. In addition, she makes ceramic icons and altarpieces, and she sews her own clothes – often by recycling her old clothes. During the past 15 years, she’s also been running her own jewelry workshop, making unique pieces of jewelry, but she’s recently closed that down because of her early retirement. This tiny greenhouse is a perfect copy of an old one. They’re originally from Holland and you’ll find no less than three of them in this garden. They’re used for the tiny, new sprouts until they’ve grown a bit stronger. Flowers and herbs grow here all summer long. Offer your guests a particularly nice experience with beautiful cakes that have been decorated with the same sort of flowers that you’ve used on the table. POPPY SEED CAKE 0.9 cup (200 g) butter¾ cup (150 g) cane sugar1 vanilla pod4 eggs1.7 cup (200 g) finely ground hazelnuts1 tsp baking powder1.7 cup (200 g) ground blue poppy seeds1 cup (250 ml) sour cream½ tsp cinnamonConfectionerʼs sugar to garnish Whisk butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla until you’ve got an airy mixture. Melon sorbet Water melon sorbet is delicious and refreshing on a warm summer day. If you’ve got some left-over melon, dice it and freeze the pieces in small bags. Take out a bag and add lemon and a bit of honey, depending on your preferences, and then blend the mixture. Milk from melon seeds Only the seeds are used to make melon milk. When Maj-Britt was little, she was always surrounded by aromas of raspberry stew, homemade jam and pickled beets. At least that’s how she recalls her childhood. Her parents and grandparents were passionate gardeners, and Maj-Britt never went to a day care center but spent her time with the grandparents. Her grandfather took her to the fields and her grandmother took her into the garden. She remembers playing in the treetops and eating strawberries and blackberries with her bare feet buried deep into the soil. It’s hard to believe that this is just a standard wooden house because as soon as you open the door, you step into a completely different world than what you’d imagine. We’re visiting the home of artist Helle Routhe who has definitely created a personal one.
