Don’t you just love this time of the year? Spring is all around and you can definitely sense that summer is on its way. I love getting up early in the morning and having a nice and quiet start to the day. I make myself a nice cup of coffee and enjoy some alone time before the rest of the house wakes up. Outside the former railway station building, Karina and Rene have created the most amazing garden and a big, beautiful orangery. They added the orangery a few years ago and they built it themselves with a little help from Rene’s father. The windows are from an old school. The entire family likes spending time in this fantastic place and the children are particularly happy when the whole family sits in the orangery in the evening, surrounded by candles. Obviously, the orangery has also been furnished with lots of French treasures from all the family holidays in the south, combined with lots of plants. The orangery is huge and insulated so that the family can use it all year round and they host lots of get-togethers here. The climbing plants love it…

A beautiful spring wreath with eucalyptus, ranunculus, hyacinths and twigs. One of the most beautiful heralds of spring is the lily of the valley. Unfortunately, this plant is extremely poisonous so be careful and wear gloves when handling it. The aromatic, beautiful flowers are worth the trouble though. Be aware that this plant looks a lot like ramson when you see it in the forest or in the scrub. Once you get closer to the plant, it’s very easy to see and smell the difference. The flowers look completely different from each other; whereas the flowers of the lily of the valley look like bells on a string, ramson is pointed and has separated leaves. The smell is also completely different because ramson smells strongly of garlic. Ramona has used…

Tips and tricks for sewing projects You can recycle the waistband from a pair of pants to make the top of a pant suit and you can also reuse the smocking from the legs. Cut off the pockets and sew them onto the clothes again in a different place. The same goes for buttons and decorative items. You can make headbands and similar items out of old fabric. Valdirose is a family home that dates back to the second half of the 19th century and it’s located in the hills of Lastra a Signa, 14 kilometers from the center of Florence. In 2007, the entire place was carefully renovated with a focus on preserving the original atmosphere. The house measures 2,045 sq ft (190 sqm) and is accompanied by a beautiful garden, including an olive grove, measuring 17,222 sq ft (1,600 sqm). When Annett from Germany saw this old, thoroughly renovated house for the first time, she immediately knew that this was going to be her home. But there were other interested buyers as well and the house owners wanted to evaluate each interested party. Luckily, they chose Annett. This happened back in 2018 and Annett still loves the house as much as she did back then. Stepping into the workshop that Helle has set up in the former garage is like entering a cave oozing of creativity. Here you can find ALL the materials you could ever imagine. Helle has been working as an artist for many years and she’s worked with watercolor, oil painting.paper cuts and many other projects. In addition, she used to work as a graphic designer for our magazine and she’s also contributed a few articles on creative projects along the way. Talking about a southern atmosphere, take a look at this round stone wall that Lars and I built at Kærby Mølle last year. We had been dreaming of making such a stone wall by our tall olive tree for a very long time. The original stone wall that belonged to the mill still surrounds the house so having a similar stone wall in the middle of the courtyard would be perfect. In Melanie’s home in Holland, the interior design style is often adjusted to fit the season. Melanie and her husband bought this house from 1880 twelve years ago and although the place needed some serious TLC, the couple saw all the hidden possibilities. They spent five years renovating the house, then the garden and then the barn. Melanie has furnished the home in subdued, natural, soft colors. Herb butter Mix some good-quality butter with lots of chopped herbs such as parsley, oregano and basil. Add pressed garlic as well. Suitable for freezing. Pesto You can use most herbs to prepare pestos, herb oils and herb butter. Just try out various ingredients until you figure out your favorite combination. Be aware that some herbs have a very strong flavor. Herbs with leaves are best for pestos, e.g. basil, parsley or ramson. When you enter Anja’s house, you immediately feel at home. Anja bought this villa from the 1960s, located in Drenthe, Holland, 10 years ago and she’s furnished it with lots of flea market finds. The house is wonderfully peaceful and you get the same impression of Anja when you meet her. Anja tells us that she often went to flea markets with her mother when she was young, and that she’s inherited her interest in things with a story from her mother. Susanne and Henrik are very busy at this time of the year. During the last few months, Susanne has been sowing thousands of seeds and as soon as the seeds start to sprout, each single plant is moved to a small pot. They’re covered up at night if it’s cold in the greenhouse, and during the day they get lots of light, sun and heat – and a suitable amount of water. Susanne checks that everything is just right. She’s been nurturing and caring for these plants as if they were her children, and in a way they are. The former railway station building in Gatten by Farsø in Denmark dates back to 1894. This is where Karina and Rene live along with the children Klara, Kristian and Laurids. The family has been living here since June 2016 when they bought the place and they’ve renovated the building from top to bottom. Amongst other things, they’ve removed the lowered ceilings to recreate the original wall height and they’ve added panels and removed paint from doors, doorframes, stairs and floors to return to the original look. A generous harvest You can harvest a lot from your herb plants during one season. Actually, this place, located just outside the Danish town of Næstved, is run by a group of ten women who share an interest in interior design.
