Expressive brushwork, meditative moods, evocative light patterns and a feeling of timelessness are all the hallmark elements of a Suchitra Bhosle painting, whose subjects range from sensuous portraits to quiet interior scenes. “I often get asked,” Bhosle says, “how I achieve that loose feel to my work and energetic brushwork, and the honest answer is ‘be still and know.’” She explains, “It is through that adage that you can begin to go inward to sense the universal truth of life. In that there is a feeling of unity, peace, stillness and contentment—a beautiful relationship with the present where all is accepted, and it reveals the connection of all things visual.”
