They say beauty comes in all shapes and sizes, a truism that rings true for the home of Kelly-Ann Myles and Julie Parker in Johannesburg’s northern suburbs. For here, centred around a magnificent Chinese nettle tree, is a home that is best described as a shapeshifting journey, a polygon of shapes that begins with a triangle and ends in a circle.
‘The tree was one of the main reasons we bought the land,’ says Kelly-Ann. ‘The idea was always for it to be incorporated into an overall design that challenged the idea of a traditional house.’
