Mawande Ka Zenzile is an artist’s artist. Singular, driven and, to echo his words, constantly in conversation with himself. Despite his illustrious academic credentials, having completed an MAFA at UCT’s Michaelis Art School, he remains dedicated to his natural affinity for ideas and objects. In many ways, this makes him difficult, almost impossible to write about.
His work does not speak from any Western-imported paradigm, and he does not use words and representations to explain his work. He is an artist, following his instinct to make art.
