AFTER failing to sparkle on his reappearance at Duncombe Park last month, Michael Bannister’s evergreen 14-year-old gelding, My Old Piano, was back in tune at Askham Bryan (26 March), writes Peter Burgon.
My Old Piano claimed victory in the men’s open, to take his winning tally to 30 on his 60th career start. Partnered for the first time by William Easterby, he was held up off the pace for the first two circuits before cruising into contention down the back straight, then took it up from Force Of Habit (John Dawson) at the last.
David Easterby, husband of Stephanie, the winning trainer, said: “Urser won 32 races under all codes, most of them when trained by my dad, Mick, and we’re aiming to beat that total.”
