The world of Web3 moves at lighting pace. Few outside the tech world knew what an NFT was last year, and even fewer could have predicted the meteoric rise of the Monkey Kingdom NFT project that launched last November. You may not know the name Felix Ip, but chances are that you’ve seen the popular animations that this Hong Kong artist has worked on: he was the creative director of Imagi Animation Studios, which worked on DreamWorks’ 2004 sitcom Father of the Pride; he co-produced Mirage Studios’ 2007 Ninja Turtles movie TMNT; and was the creative director of Astro Boy in 2009. Yoyo Lung is an emerging Chinese jewellery designer worth watching. Her talent for designing covetable pieces comes from a love of visual arts and an appreciation of high jewellery—a passion that was ignited after receiving a coming-of-age gift from her parents: a ring by the heritage-rich Parisian jewellers Chaumet, customised with a jade gemstone. One of Lung’s hero creations is the one-of-a-kind Ruby & I ring, which features a ruby centrepiece surrounded by sparkling diamonds that form a unique, spike-inspired design. Lung says the design reminds her to “stay true to her character, and never compromise”. It’s a distinctive piece that demonstrates the designer’s pursuit of perfection; she once forgot to stop and rest for three days because she was so engrossed in researching craftsmanship and techniques. Founded by the eponymous designer in 2017, Austy Lee jewellery was created to offer patrons “psychedelic healing” through the rich colours and dazzling sheen of its creations. A fresh, irreverent jeweller, Lee draws stylistic influences from eclectic muses including punk rock, Viking gods, sex, Japanese history, Mongolian hawk hunters and the lush landscape of Tsing Yi in the New Territories, where he grew up. For his latest line, the Psychedelic Light collection, Lee looks to a frequent touchstone—the vibrant colours and morphing shapes of hallucinogenic experiences. The former head of research for HSBC Private Bank left behind an illustrious career in finance to combine her business instinct and love for cooking to create DayDayCook, a food startup catering to the needs of younger people by sharing recipes, meal plans, cooking classes and ready-made food. Chu started DayDayCook in 2012 as a food blog before growing it into the e-commerce platform it is today. Age is far more than just a number where whisky is concerned, and few brands can attest to that more than The Macallan. The acclaimed distillery’s most recent release has been decades in the making, with its rich beginnings reaching across eight decades. In a single, sherry-seasoned oak cask, this single malt began ageing in 1940—a year after the Second World War began. Over the years, the malt has developed a depth of flavours spanning dark chocolate, aromatic peat, plums, bramble jam, treacle toffee and charred pineapple. Kimhēkim’s love for giant bows, pinned pearl buttons and exaggerated tailoring is captivating. Contrary to what you might imagine of a Korean fashion label, Kiminte Kimhekim’s fame is not necessarily linked to the rise of K-pop culture or dressing Korean celebrities. Instead, the designer, known professionally as Kimhēkim, gained his cult following of 200,000 Instagram fans because of his distinctive aesthetic: minimalist forms with maximalist details. Jacqueline Tsang Editor-in-Chief of Tatler Hong Kong The Masse Mystérieuse from Cartier is aptly named because the watch is absolutely mind-boggling. As visually arresting as the semitransparent timepiece is, with a skeletonised winding rotor, it’s the mechanics that have watch lovers awestruck. The brand has managed to build the 9801 MC automatic movement into the rotor (also known as oscillating mass, hence the name), and moving the watch also winds it by virtue of the rotor swinging around a central gear and winding train. Ruangrupa like to have a good time. This was one of the reasons why Farid Rakun joined the group as a student back in 2010. “It didn’t hurt that they liked to party,” Rakun says. “It was a place I knew I would have a good time.” The Jakarta-based collective offers more than just a good time. Loosely translated, ruangrupa means a “space for art”. What is your earliest memory of food? I grew up in Fuenlabrada, which is on the outskirts of Madrid. Near my home, there was an orchard that grew cucumbers, and every day, I had to pass it to go to school. The farmer would cut the cucumber into tiny pieces, season it with salt and give it to me. You get some interesting questions as a woman with tattoos.
