Inspired by classical music and impressionist art, Anna Hu becomes first Asian haute jeweller to permanently exhibit at Russia’s State Historical Museum. When most people recall their childhood, slow days at the park or silly play dates often shoot to mind. But Anna Hu’s upbringing was a little bit different. GETTING THERE I flew Emirates from Hong Kong to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, via Dubai. From Addis Ababa, I flew Ethiopian Airways to Lalibela in the north of the country and then on to Gondar. Be sure to have appropriate medication for altitude sickness at hand and rest for at least 24 hours on arrival. In summer, Ladakh is reachable by road from Manali or Srinagar, and this is the best way to acclimatise gradually. WEATHER Festivals take place year round and offer visitors a memorable experience. When René Chu met the blind American singer/songwriter Stevie Wonder last year at the Art of Elysium gala dinner in Los Angeles, at which he was honoured, it got her to thinking about the five senses—how they’re used in daily life and how they’re so often taken for granted. She also donated 600 pairs of glasses to the cause. Fast-forward a year and René has just launched her Five Senses collection, which comprises different lines themed around touch, taste, smell, sight and sound.
