WE'RE USED TO WILD DESIGN STATEMENTS on this page – stuff that, every now and then, merits its crazy price tag. This, though, at first glance at least, is simply a pinboard covered in postcards and ephemera. What's so special about that? Get up closer, though, and you realise what you're looking is not paper, but thread.
Designed and made by Laura Lees (and available via Bard in Leith), this piece is called A Tale of Three Cities and is the embroidery artist's ode to the places that have had a impact on her life and work. Dundee, London and her hometown of Edinburgh are painstakingly recreated as appliqués atop a pinboard that is itself an embroidered trompe-l'oeil.
