Lungile Mbambo WHERE Blairgowrie, Johannesburg “I bought this house because of the swimming pool,” says Lungile Mbambo, a digital design specialist working in banking. “It was definitely not for the kitchen, even though the estate agent kept telling me how wonderful it was.” Although there was sufficient storage and counter space, the kitchen was in fact very tired and dated, with yellowing timber cabinets that made it feel claustrophobic. The striking games cupboard in the foyer of Adél Visser’s Franschhoek home used to be a bedroom wardrobe. “I’ve had this cupboard for years and painted it myself with a dark grey over a white undercoat to highlight the grooves in the doors.
