The Manhattan Project was greater than Los Alamos and at its peak employed 130,000 people. The logistics challenge was bringing vast quantities of heavy water and nuclear ores and metals to the uranium reactor at Clinton Engineer Works, Tennessee, and the plutonium reactor at Hanford Engineer Works, Washington. Workers then enriched the nuclear material from the 18,900,000lb (8,570,000kg) of uranium ore acquired for the Manhattan Project. Atomic weapon-grade uranium and plutonium moved on to Los Alamos for weapon assembly.
