Born into an upper-crust family in 1917, Tatham Warter was bred to fight for king and country. Taught to ride and shoot from an early age, he was later educated at Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, via an elite public school, before shipping out to India. By the outbreak of WWII he was enjoying army life in the Raj, playing polo, shooting tigers and ‘sticking pigs’ – ie hunting wild boar with a spear.
