Give a dresser color and texture 1 If your dresser has knobs, unscrew them and set them aside. Remove the dresser's drawers. Paint the drawer fronts and the dresser's frame with a color similar to the grass cloth wallpaper you're using. Let dry. 2 Lay the wallpaper facedown, then trace each drawer front on the back. When it came time to renovate the kitchen in her West Bend, WI, home three years ago, Kris O'Meara armed herself with magazine clippings and Pinterest boards—and photos of restaurants she loves. There was a time when I spent every weekend fixing up my former house in Birmingham, AL—a 1930s bungalow that needed plenty of updates. All that DIYing kept me busy (and in good shape), and I learned a ton along the way. Some lessons came easy, some not—like the time I painted my living room ceiling. Halfway through, I ran out of paint and bought more. When I was done, I looked up and—gasp!—the ceiling was two different shades. So what did I do wrong? 1 upholster chairs 1. Unhook the seat from the chair frame. 2. Cut a ¼-inch-thick piece of plywood slightly smaller than the size of the seat, or have a home improvement store do it for you. Cut several pieces of batting the same size as the seat. 3. Place the wood on top of the seat, followed by the batting, then a large piece of muslin. Flip the stack upside down.
