Joining the glamorous posse of celebrities reaching their half-century, Renée Zellweger certainly had plenty to shout about as she celebrated her 50th birthday last week.
After playing one of cinema’s most well-loved female characters in the shape of Bridget Jones, she is taking on a true Hollywood icon in her next role – Judy Garland.
Hype around Judy , which is due to be released this autumn, suggests it will be box-office magic.
Renée is, of course, famous for her physical transformations on screen, piling on the pounds to play hapless heroine Bridget, while also perfecting an English accent.
She has, however, been dismissive of the attention this has garnered, saying: “No male actor would get such scrutiny if he did the same thing for a role.”
