To cover up roots or greys, opt for a permanent colour. “A semi-permanent coats the hair giving some coverage and lots of shine, but won’t lift hair much,” explains Bleach London founder, Alex Brownsell. If you’re focusing on blending your roots with your existing colour, Garnier’s home colour expert, Michael Douglas, recommends applying the root colour first and leaving it to develop, then smudging the excess into your existing colour using gloved fingers or a clean make-up brush and then leaving it for a further five to ten minutes, to avoid any harsh lines.
