Before releasing Speak Your Mind, the biggest debut album of 2018, Anne-Marie (Rose Nicholson) had already had her fair share of the spotlight. In 2014 she joined Rudimental’s band for two years, she toured with Ed Sheeran and, in 2016, provided vocals for Clean Bandit’s Rockabye, which became the Christmas number one. However, with the success came the anxiety, something she says she’s tackled for years. Then, during lockdown, she began seeing a therapist, naming her second album Therapy after the experience. “I feel like we were given this opportunity to figure ourselves out, because for our whole lives we’ve never been given a chance to stop,” she says, adding, “I’ve come out of it a different person and I’ve dedicated my album to that feeling”.
