The HFM team enjoyed an early Christmas dinner during our festivities photoshoot at Kenya-born chef Ravinder Bhogal’s cosy London restaurant, Jikoni (p110). She’s taken the best of what this country’s got to offer and infused it with her own cultural heritage to create something truly different and memorable. Annie, tell us about your design process? “My environment stimulates ideas. I’ll stop to appreciate what I see and take a picture with my phone or scribble an idea in a little notebook I carry round with me. Then I’ll sketch an outline of a charm and share it with one of my Bali silversmiths, who then produce a wax carving as a starting point. Each piece is refined many times before the heated silver is poured into the finished mould, hand decorated to a high-quality finish. HFM beauty director Charlotte Jolly has a soft spot for Mon Guerlain perfume: “It has a fresh bitterness that reminds me of cologne, but there’s also a sweet, creamy core that I can’t get enough of.” Charlotte got to meet the man behind the fragrance in a sun-baked field in Provence, where the lavender for Mon Guerlain is grown. What’s so special about this particular crop? “It’s called ‘Carla’ lavender. Most lavender fields contain ‘clones’ – the same species planted side by side, row after row. CHRISTMAS CLEMENTINE FIZZ This sparkling seasonal citrus take on a classic Bellini is Christmas spirit in a glass. It’s dangerously drinkable and so easy to make! 1 bottle of prosecco 600g clementines, juiced 3 tablespoons of Cointreau For dried clementines 4 clementines, very thinly sliced into rings 2 tablespoons caster sugar 1. Preheat your oven to 100 degrees C. Pat the clementine slices with kitchen towel to get rid of excess moisture, then sprinkle on the caster sugar.
