H&F’s Emma Lewis tries a sports massage with a difference
What? Warmth of the Sands Rescue Massage, £55 for 45 minutes.
Where? The Spa in Dolphin Square, London; dolphinsquare.co.uk/spa. 'Designed to help ease fitness-related aches and pains, this treatment, which uses warm and cold lava shells to help massage your muscles, was very effective. Grace, the therapist, concentrated on my tight shoulders and neck, and, holding the lava shells in her hands, applied them to my skin using powerful strokes.
The idea is that the combo of long, firm strokes with the hot lava shells, followed by quick, flicking strokes with a cold one, helps muscles recover and heal quicker by first relaxing the muscles with the hot shells, then reducing inflammation and pain with the cold shell.
