This past summer, my son Poet, an avid local fisherman and budding conservationist, got the chance of a lifetime to fish the waters off Isla Floreana in the Galapagos. Sustainability is ever present in the hearts and minds of the fortunate few who get to fish the waters surrounding the largest ocean preserve in the world.
We had a magnificent day of fishing. Poet reeled in 3 barracuda, 2 amberjack (kahala), 3 grouper, 1 ono, 1 wrasse, 1 bait fish, 2 whitefish, and 2 beautiful Camotillo (sand-sea bass) in just over 6 hours on the water.
