Here is another safety tip to keep everyone safe on the water this summer season.
If you fish on day charters or go out on your friends’ boats, you should be aware of all the safety features of the vessel. Know the locations of the PFDs, fire extinguishers, first-aid kits, radios, fuel shutoffs, life rafts, throwing rings, smoke detectors and flares.
You may not be tasked to operate any of these items, but in the unlikely event the crew is incapacitated, you may be required to use and/or operate all of the above items for your own safety and/or the safety of the other passengers.
