The 2022 Hawai‘i Island Spring Turkey Hunt concluded April 15, following a 46-day run. The Spring Hunt differs in both methodology and take from the Fall Game Bird Season, during which turkeys are also hunted.
During the Fall Season, when all listed species of game birds may be harvested, hunters traverse open fields, putting hidden birds to flight with the aid of pointing or flushing dogs. One turkey of either sex may be taken per day, with no seasonal limit.
In the Spring Season, timed to occur during the turkey breeding cycle, only bearded males (toms) may be taken. It is a tagged hunt, with a seasonal limit of three birds. Use of dogs is not permitted.
