■ The Kawaihae Wahine Fishing Tournament, held on Saturday, May 2, 2015, benefitted our program, The Big Island Giving Tree. Thirty-three boats participated in this event.
This tournament was a huge success. Generous sponsors donated about $6,000 worth of in-kind prizes, enabling each boat to receive a prize for participating. Placement prizes included hotel stays, airfare, dinners, massages, spa treatments and gift certificates from various businesses around the island. Because of the generosity of the community, anglers walked away with many great prizes!
We raised more than $5,000 net, which will help us with our year-’round program: from delivering fresh fruits and vegetables door to door to our kupuna, to feeding the homeless communities and blessing them with basic necessities (bath soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, can openers, shavers and deodorant).…
