Thursday, March 4, 2015, was an exciting day for Bruce McCown, Paul Greenlee, Marcus from Omaha, and Tor and Kyle (photographers) aboard the BOOM BOOM. Bruce and Paul have been fishing together for more than 40 years in Oregon, Alaska and now Hawai‘i.
Two hours out, the line went down. “Fish on!” was called, and the battle was on. From the fast pace at which the 130-lb test line peeled from the BOOM BOOM’s Penn International reel, it was evident that this was a big one. Sure enough, a big fish broke water behind the boat, thrashing her head and heading northwest as if she suddenly remembered that she had a urgent appointment in Japan!
The fish took more than 1,000 yards of line in two hours, and the fishermen…
