Patrick Briney, an experienced Washington state fisherman, was killed in a kayak fishing shark attack off Little Beach in Makena, Maui. Hawai‘i normally sees four shark attacks in a year, but this year Patrick was the eighth Maui shark attack, the 13th statewide and the second Maui fatality.
