Firefighting is dangerous work. Responding to building fires, medical emergencies and land and sea rescues, firefighters need to be equipped and ready for any alarm. So when the alarm rang for a day of fishing, Hawai'i firefighters were quick to respond!
On September 24, 2009, firefighters put aside their hoses and fire trucks and launched their boats to participate in the 19th Annual Firefighter Fishing Tournament. Last year's fishing champs, Team Comptime (Bill Bergin, Maika'i Pi'ianaia, Mike Hirae, Ipo Thompson, Royd Henderson, John Whitman and Paul Higgins)) of the Waimea Fire Station, coordinated this year's event.
