■ Since early times (wa kahiko),Hawaiians have had many forms of fishing. They have always studied the ocean, tides, winds, moon and sun in order to utilize the large expanse of ocean resources surrounding them. One of the most widely used methods, even today, is the art of the throw net. I have seen this done many times, but never really understood how it worked. So, I went to Uncle Raymond Naki, the cultural kahuna of the east end of Moloka‘i, and he gave me an entire history lesson on throw nets.
