■ The Seventh Annual Flying Fishing Freaks Tournament was held in Kailua-Kona on October 11, 12 and 13. Airline employees and their friends came from as far away as Taiwan, the Marshall Islands and Florida to compete.
The hard work of being a tournament director paid off this year when I found out that Bob Friedman and Lanny Adler, both from Minneapolis, Minnesota, were coming back to the harbor to weigh in a marlin guesstimated at over 800 lbs! I jumped in the car with my two tournament slaves, Rich Stone and George Clark (both Northwest Airlines flight attendants), and headed for the scales at Honokohau Harbor.
