■ The ‘oama run of 1998 on the island of O‘ahu was very disappointing, probably the worst I can recall. I stopped at many of the popular spots in Ka‘a‘awa, Hale‘iwa, ‘Aina-Haina, Ala Moana and a few others, and everyone was telling me the same thing, “No mo’ ‘oama.”
I visited the island of Hawai‘i in early September, and the ‘oama run was in full bloom along the-Kona Coast. There were thousands of ‘oama in the school that my brother-in-law and I were fishing. So, when I returned home to O‘ahu, I was confused as to why many of the best spots on 0‘ahu were empty.
