I first got involved with long-distance casting last year when my brother Brock came back from a display by the Texas Longcasters. Brock said, “Brett, you have got to see this.” So, the next few months we spent time searching the ’net and watching videos, trying to figure the game out! With varying degrees of success, we plodded on.
Then we met Walter Ashitomi. With his help and encouragement, we decided to go to Texas for the World Long Distance Casting Championships. Walter and his wife, Ethel, have been to three world meets and know everyone who is anyone in long-distance casting. I have also watched, with amazement, Walter cast a spinning setup close to 150 yards! He knows his stuff!
