■ This year, the Pearl Harbor Yacht Club hosted the “Safety at Sea Fair” on June 3 and 4 at the Pearl Harbor Yacht Club. Admission was free to see demonstrations from a rescue helicopter flown by club member Lt. Jan Johnson. The Coast Guard demonstrations included use of pumps, EPIRBs, PFDs, fire extinguishers, flares and GPS. The Coast Guard displayed their dissected vessel and rescue equipment and conducted briefings on pollution control and commercial fishing regulations with the assistance of the state Harbors Division, Honolulu Fire Department’s Search and Rescue, city and county lifeguards and Blue Water Marine Laboratory.
Factory representatives from Kent, Kidde, Orion, Stearns and West Marine displayed products. Other vendors included the American Red Cross, Avon Inflatables, Battery Exchange, Boat Trader Magazine, Cheetah Communications, Hawaii Maritime…
