Hawai‘i Safari
■ There’s a safari in Hawai‘i that’s not just a surfing safari. Molokai Ranch has available for a fee a game preserve for selective hunting of exotic big-game animals. Joey Joao, who heads up the Molokai Ranch hunting program, told HAWAII FISHING NEWS that there are currently hunts available for eland, blackbuck antelope and Barbary sheep. The animals are hunted on a 2,400-acre range. Last year, the blackbuck antelope hunt was featured on ESPN. The price to shoot Moloka’i big game is big time, with antelopes costing $1,000, elan $1,250 to $1,500 and Barbary sheep tipping the scales at a grand. There is a no-shoot, no-pay policy. Guided hunts are available for $400 and include four-wheel-drive truck, meals, airport pickup, hotel arrangements and dressing and skinning of game.…
