On Friday, July 26, 1994, my son, Al Jr., fishing buddies, Mitchell Oshimo, Glen Sakai and Lance Yamashina, and my partners in slime, Keoni and Donald, came from O’ahu to Lana’i City, Lana’i, to try their luck with ulua pounding at Awalua Shipwreck.
On Saturday from approximately 4 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., they got five awesome, line-ripping ulua strikes while utilizing their Penn 3/0 reels with 50-lb test Stren line, two-piece Daiwa poles, #30 through #44 circle hooks and tako leg baits.
