Auwe! Again the state of Hawai‘i‘s Harbor Division (Department of Transportation) is trying to eliminate more of the few free recreational resources and pleasures here. They have already stopped and minimized shoreline fishing along Honolulu’s southern harbors and piers. I’ve seen the signs, “No Fishing Allowed”! Not to mention that there are other areas around O‘ahu prohibiting access, or fishing, too!
This was just the beginning. Now, the state wishes to eliminate more shoreline fishing spots. These include the wharves, bulkhead walls and piers along Kewalo, Honolulu and Barber’s Point harbors. This means no more fishing (pole or net) for hahalalu, akule, papio, weke, mullet, palani, ‘o‘io, or a multitude of other table fish for kau kau, and no more safe place for old and young anglers to…
