■ He fished with big black reels, but he had a smile of international gold. “Ono” Jim Dixon, who fished out of Pohoiki on the Puna Coast of the Big Island, passed away on November 10, 1993. Jim was 43 years old and had a wife, Philo, and a son, Kyle. His ashes were flung into the north wind off Pohoiki at a seaside ceremony attended by 200 people. Suisan Wholesale Fish Company sent their head buyer to represent them. The Dixon fisherman’s funeral grinds included sashimi, ‘opihi and, of course, ono steaks on the barbecue.
