■ John Jardin, of Kalaheo, won the 1989 Hawaii State Championship along with $2,025 in prizes for catching the state’s largest bass in the 1989 Big Bass World Championship (BBWC). The fishing contest, which ran from January through December of 1989, was sponsored by BASSIN’ magazine, a publication of NatCom Inc. located in Bixby, Oklahoma. Unlike other fishing tournaments, the BBWC allows anglers to fish any time and in any body of water, with the opportunity to win valuable prizes if they catch a qualified largemouth bass.
After completing the winner-certification process this May, all BBWC state champions-including John, who earned the top spot with his 7-lb, 5.6 oz catch-were awarded $1,000 cash, plus $1,025 in bonus prizes, which included a Coleman RAM-X PRO two-man boat, a MotorGuide electric trolling…
