Fishbusters
■ Twice a year every year, a group of men venture to the grounds of South Kona and consistently catch an enormous amount of fish.
1987 was no different.
In April, Bernard Sagawa, George Otani, Glenn Takahashi, George Matsuzaki, Leslie Nagamine and Allen Watanabe took in more than 600 fish including moi, ‘aweoweo, aholehole, akule and menpachi.
On their second trip, in October, Bernard, Leslie and Allen were joined by Wally Nagamine, Gilbert Uemura and Dell Kaneta, and this time the Coast rendered even more. These guys caught in excess of 800 fish, a catch mostly made up of ‘aweoweo and menpachi.
They mostly caught night fish, with a few exceptions. Leslie caught a 12-lb kagami ulua while whipping the shoreline with his 10½-foot Fenwick rod and BG-30 Daiwa…
