Old, Rare and Valuable
Nine grand for one fishing lure? That’s what an unidentified collector paid for a 138-year-old, silver-plated bass spoon at an antique fishing tackle auction last month in Kennebunk, Maine. The $9,240 bid was a new record. The previous highest price for an antique lure was $5,500 at last year’s edition of this annual auction.
There are big bucks in old tackle boxes. A bamboo flyrod hooked $3,575, and a silver fishing reel, circa 1910, wound in $6,600 for its owner.
The highest priced item, though, was a duck decoy that lured $60,000 from some daffy enthusiast.
What do you do with a $9,240 lure? You sure don’t toss it anywhere a fish can take it away from you.
