The rainbow trout fishing season at Kokee, Kauai opened at 5:30 a.m. on August 4th, 1979. This season, exclusive to Kauai, provides the sportfisherman with an experience he could not ordinarily obtain unless he flew over 2,000 miles to the West Coast. As an avid freshwater fisherman, I had waited ten long months for the season to arrive. In our cabin, and I imagine in cabins and tents elsewhere, people were reluctantly getting out of warm sleeping bags and into the cool, morning air. The overnight temperature was 56 degrees.
