■ Despite our rather dreary predictions in the last issue, some very good things came out of the Ninth Legislative Session, with lasting importance for Hawaii’s fishermen. That session, which ended April 14, produced some legislation relating to the needs and wants of Hawaii’s fishing industry, than any in the history of the State.
The good news at the close of the session is that virtually every bill submitted by fishing related interests, be they shorecasters, long liners, bottom fishermen or weekend trailers, passed the legislature. Occasionally in somewhat altered form, but passed nonetheless.
