■ I have had a love affair with Kona that dates back 35 years. My first visit to this lovely spot was in January, 1942. At the time I was Principal of Punahou School and was invited by the Hawaii Education Association to talk on some educational topic, long since forgotten, at the annual conventions of the four local teachers associations on the island of Hawaii — Hilo, Honokaa, Kohala and Kona, We were scheduled to cover the first three on the first day and the last, Kona, on the second day.
