NEW STATE RECORD: O‘opu‘akupa
Hi, Carrie,
Our family decided to spend our day prawning at the Onomea ponds, and hanging out for the day. We caught couple of prawns in our traps but wanted to catch more for dinner that night, so we walked the stream. I started scooping in the blind and caught an ‘o‘opu. Perfect for the dinner plate!

Editor’s Note: Annette Tagawa, aquatic biologist with the state’s Division of Aquatic Resources, identified Jesse’s fish as the o‘opu‘akupa (Eleotris sandwicensis). It was nine inches long and weighed 6.7 oz – a new state record for this species. Congratulations, Jesse!
