“What is certain, is that it exists for some people, and as your perception is your reality, if it exists, it will be,” she says. “There is a level of mythology around it. For some people, it’s a social construct, for other people, it’s very real. I think it’s in a similar category to something like premenstrual tension. You will have women who say, ‘It affects me every month, it’s a major aspect of my life.’ Then you have other women who might say, ‘It doesn’t bother me, it’s a bit overhyped.’”
