My new ritual when I get home from work is to fill a hot water bottle and carry it round the house with me. Yes, I look silly and yes, my family make fun of me but it’s worth it to feel warm. My husband and I fundamentally disagree on heater use – he is from the ‘put on another jumper’ school of thought, whereas I like to live my whole life in an ambient temperature of 25 degrees. As you might have guessed, winter is not my season. Both my energy and my enthusiasm levels drop along with the mercury and it’s hard to keep motivated with fitness and healthy eating goals. If you’re anything like me, then this issue is going to be just the positive boost you…
FIRM FAVOURITE Good morning! I’m sitting at the breakfast bar smiling; no – make that grinning, because yesterday I bought the latest edition of GHC and what a difference this morning makes. It changed my whole mentality and I got up today with breakfast pre-prepared and also knowing what was on the menu for the rest of the week. Unfortunately I had been gifted a subscription to another healthy magazine which has now finished, but after reading yesterday’s GHC cover to cover, all I can say is I’ve missed you! Now I’m home, never to stray again. Barbara BRAIN POWER I wholeheartedly agree with the May issue article on retraining your brain for weight loss. BODY AND MIND Tai chi can significantly reduce the symptoms of depression in those not receiving other treatments. The study involved 50 Chinese American participants, with a diagnosis of major depressive disorder in the mild to moderate range, split into three groups – one practising tai chi, one participating in education sessions on stress and depression, and one who received no treatment. The trial ran over a 12-week period, and at the end, those doing tai chi showed significantly greater improvement in symptoms than both control groups, and when followed up at 24 weeks, they showed sustained improvements. For all to enjoy Countdown understands how difficult it can be living with a food intolerance. That’s why they’ve created their Free From range so you don’t have to compromise on quality…
Q What would you say to encourage people who think they’re too uncoordinated to do a Fitness Marshall routine? A Dance is what makes me feel confident. Moving your body to music is such a freeing experience; there’s really nothing like it. It’s so emotional, it’s physical, and it’s using your brain and body at the same time. It makes you feel like a superhero. My advice to people would be to just relax and let your body move and feel the music. It’s unlocking what’s already inside of someone and helping them find a way to become their most powerful and confident self. Q What’s your favourite routine to do, and what’s your favourite routine to teach? A That’s a tough one. I love them all! Probably Sorry by…
