In 2003 my dad bought a red 2001 model 3.2 Di-D Pajero. We did about 50 000 km with it, through Botswana, Namibia, Angola, Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe, mostly on gravel roads, rocks and sand.
We had to change the starter, generator and front wheel bearings. The clutch plate was only changed at 350 000 km (at a horrific price!), but the engine, gearbox and differentials are still the originals. Apart from the fact that my dad raised the ride height by 50 mm, the Pajero is still completely standard, like the day it drove off the factory floor.
