Massachusetts artist and picture-book author Audrey Helen Weber is drawn to the weird, wacky things that humans do. As a kid, they loved to make stuff, play dress-up, and partake in local festivities. “I was in the Girl Scouts so, in my small town, we always had a Memorial Day parade. And then I was in marching band in high school and did quite a lot of parading around,” they say. “There is something exciting – low-stakes exciting – about a good small-town parade … They’re very sweet things, but also, when you think about them, they’re one of the silliest things we do as humans.”
