Luminous wines offer pure crystalline fruit; they fizzle with energy and have acidities that border on electric. I recently had this revelation at a tasting of the 2017 releases for Alheit Vineyards. Studies have shown that having egg for breakfast or lunch reduces post-meal hunger and could lead to you eating less at the next meal. Dairy products are the main dietary source of numerous compounds like calcium, vitamin D, butyrate, lactoferrin and conjugated linoleic acid, which have all been shown to exhibit anticarcinogenic properties and, as such, may contribute to reducing the risk of developing breast cancer. When it comes to low-fat dairy, a recent review of multiple studies done on dairy and its relation to breast cancer showed that the consumption of yoghurt and low-fat dairy products is associated with significantly reducing one’s risk of developing the disease, while other dairy products are not. Because of this, he could not write within the lines, for which he was mocked, pressured and punished by his teachers. It’s long been known that berries are good for our health. This is in part thanks to the potent antioxidants that are found in the form of specific phytochemicals in the dark red, blue and purple pigments of these fruits. Growing evidence has shown that these phytochemicals, called anthocyanins, can aid in protecting the body against numerous diseases like cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cancer. Over the past decade, recommendations on healthy egg consumption have changed. Historically, it was thought that one’s egg intake should be limited for heart health due to its high cholesterol content. A popular misconception is that foods high in cholesterol increase blood cholesterol while, in actual fact, it is saturated and trans fats that affect blood cholesterol levels negatively. Most people who eat a generally healthy diet can consume roughly seven eggs per week. New research has shown that individuals with prediabetes or type 2 diabetes can consume up to a dozen eggs a week, with no differences registered in blood glucose, blood lipids (fatty substances found in blood) and markers of inflammation. Liquorice extract is made from the root of the Glycyrrhiza glabra (liquorice) plant, a herbaceous perennial legume that is native to southern Europe and parts of Asia. Widely known for its medicinal and therapeutic properties, liquorice root has long been consumed as a natural remedy to help soothe gastrointestinal problems, like stomach ulcers, heartburn and chronic gastritis. Today, alcohol is used to withdraw the distinctive flavour from the root when making liquorice extract, which is then used to make different confectioneries, aperitifs and sweets. FRUITY ICE LOLLIES Makes 6 EASY 15 mins + overnight, to freeze WHAT YOU NEED 125ml (½ cup) each Clover Krush Tropical, Clover Krush Mango and Clover Krush Berries 375g (1½ cups) Clover Smooth Low Fat Yoghurt 100g fresh/tinned granadilla pulp 100g frozen raspberries crushed ice, to serve fresh seasonal fruit, to garnish fresh mint leaves, to garnish HOW TO DO IT 1 Lightly grease 6 x 125ml ice-lolly moulds with cooking spray.
