During December and January in South Florida, most offshore anglers are looking to catch sailfish, kingfish, blackfin tuna, dolphin, cobia and wahoo near the surface, and grouper, cobia, mutton snappers, amberjacks and almaco jacks over artificial wrecks and ledges. The savvy offshore angler knows that a north or northeast wind will create a sizable swell from the wind blowing against the northbound Gulf Stream. That angler also knows that sailfish like to ride the tops of those swells as they head south against the current.
