Bill Sikora, of Deerfield Beach, is casual, soft-spoken. Assistant manager of a grocery store. Organizes freshwater kayak fishing tournaments. You wouldn’t know it, but he carries a grudge.
Some eight years ago, Bill explained, he “took a little break from kayak fishing.”
That little break was to battle esophageal cancer, which on a relative scale of battles might be comparable to bluefin tuna.
Bill’s in remission, but he still fights cancer—every chance he gets, it seems.
Few years back, Bill met one of the leaders of Casting for Recovery, or CfR, for short. It’s a national group organizing therapeutic recreational fishing trips for women living with breast cancer.
“Something clicked,” he said. “I wanted to help.”
